By the time I bought this book, I had already read a lot of online resources about bash scripting, and I had already been using linux for two years. I had even read most of the A-plus certification book on Linux. Despite that, I was constantly struggling to write bash scripts that worked, this is because so much of the free online documentation on bash scripting is confusing and incomplete. Even when consulting co-workers, they too could not explain why so many things I tried to code in a bash script did not work. That's when I decided to buy this book.The "Linux Command Line and Shell Scripting Bible" cleared up a lot of problems that have been plaguing me for a long time now. I wish that I had started to learn bash scripting with this book, it could have saved me a lot of time. I would highly recommend this for anybody who will use linux.Let me list some things this book explained to me that I struggled with for years prior:- When is a subshell made, what are the implications of that, how does variable scoping come into play.- how can you create, manipulate, and pass around arrays in bash- how does the "return" statement behave in functions, how to use that in an if statement- how can you do math in bash- the differences between [ ] and Here are some other things I love about this book:- it has an excellent explanation of how you could parse a command line that follows a complicated pattern like "mycommand --longopt -a -bcf input.txt -- foo bar zop". Before I picked up this book I thought that would be too difficult to do in a bash script.- It explains how to easily create GUI interfaces for your script.- It has one of the best explanations for sed and gawk I have ever seen.Throughout the entire book, everything said is clear and easy to understand, and the authors give you ample examples to demonstrate the point. While the thickness of the book is a bit intimidating, you will find that you can read it pretty fast because a lot of those pages are full of clear examples that you can read quickly.Yet again I highly recommend it.

Great book, written in a way that I can understand. I'm starting chapter six (there are over 700 pages and 26 chapters) and the material is easy enough to comprehend. Unlike some other books on this topic, this book is current (2015) and doesn't read like it's been translated into English or written in broken English. My wife got me this book as my Christmas gift and I'm thoroughly enjoying every word! I'm VERY happy!

I have been using Linux on/off for a long time now. Favorite distro is Manjaro KDE. I bought this book to improve my bash scripting and use it as a future reference. I find the book to be easy to read. Everything is well explained and easy to follow. Decided to start reading the book from the beginning in my attempt to identify and fill in the gaps. In my opinion, this book is good for all levels. I am happy with this purchase.

Needed something to brush up on my bash. First few chapters were kind of review but I did find some new commands in there so didn't know so it was worth the read. Everything I know about Bash is self taught so this is a nice addition to my knowledge base.

Whether you're an avid user of linux command line or a beginner, this book covers a wide range of necessary topics with great explanations. A lot of book contain a lot of fluff in examples or explanations, but this guide does a great job of showing examples, how to use them, and explaining with the right amount of details and background.

I've been using linux for years but I never had any formal education with bash. Sure, I could write little scrips, but I was not a master. This book filled in a lot of the gaps and is a fantastically well put together primer. I thought they did an amazing job with flow control and sed/gawk.I would buy this before the "Linux Bible"

Great book, actually!I only have a few minor complaints where the book really doesn't give you much insight into certain key areas (as to how or why), such as: In variables, even after half the book read, I want to know, can I redirect STDOUT to a variable, rather than a file? It's not exactly clear here, and more generally speaking, some examples are fine, but others may leave you stunned, trying to let it sink in until you figure it out. I don't really mind this, because it does get your analytical mindset on par, but it could save some time by adding just a few extra pages of text with some minor help tactics.Aside from that, I still don't like the "Bible" aspect of the title, not for religious reasons where it may sound blasphematic (new word?) to some, but when you use the term "Bible" a buyer might assume this is THE ONLY text you'll need to learn all the ins and outs of Command Line Shell Scripting. Not the case.Still, this was a great choice to get introduced. I think it is well written, and the author takes initiative to show you not only WHAT NOT to do, but WHY NOT to do those things.Worth the money, definitely!

This is a classic caper book in the tradition of "Oceans 11," which is a genre I'm fond of. Unfortunately, it's a big letdown. special agent Kate O'Hara spends her life trying to trap super-thief con artist Nick Fox. After a quick introduction that previews both protagonists' unique talents (she can kill a man 16 different ways with tweezers) -- and also their mutual sexual attraction - the two are thrown together to manufacture an operation that will recover half a billion dollars bilked by a bent banker.The premise is promising but the execution is so, so flat. Big chunks of the book read as if they were lifted from travel guides. So we learn, for example, that the Banoa Bali Regal is a "five-star resort built on the pristine golden sands of the Tanjung Benoa peninsula. Once home to ramshackle fishing villages, the peninsula was now a prime tourist destination with high-end hotels taking advantage of the swaying palms, sugary beaches, bright blue seas and breathtaking vistas."There are, unfortunately, lots of passages like that,.The authors build the sexual tension between the two protagonists - and then it deflates like a week-old banana. The climax, if such it could be called, is a very damp squib.I know these writers can do better if they only put their minds to it. Perhaps the lure of a big check for minimal efforts was too alluring. If this is a book about con artists, readers beware. You are the marks!

I am SO IN. Fans of White Collar (may it rest in peace) will easily find a home within these pages, and Evanovich and Greenberg spin a breezy tale of audacious cons, exotic locales, and a dash of sizzling romantic tension. The Heist isn't a deep or profound read by any stretch of the imagination, but it is just the type of breezy, over-the-top, ridiculously fun caper that my heat-fatigued brain craved (summer is not, and never has been, my friend).Kate is something of a walking cliche in that she is capable at her job but consumed by it, with zero work/life balance and completely oblivious to her appeal as a potential romantic partner. While in that respect she is a complete, one-note chick lit cliche, it's refreshing to see a female lead who is a capable professional with a great familial support system. In fact, Kate's father Jake, is a highlight of the novel, a retiree and former special ops veteran who gleefully serves as Kate's unofficial back-up while overseas performing unsanctioned extraordinary rendition missions. I love the fact that -- at least initially -- he's more excited and supportive of Kate's dangerous new line of work than she is herself.A concept novel like this something of a con itself, and it only works if the characters involved can sell the over-the-top storyline. Therein lies the book's greatest success, as -- led by Nick -- the motley crew that assembles to take down Derek Griffin is deliciously humorous and engaging, gleefully owning their less-than-legal behavior. Nick's new team is a band of modern day Robin Hoods, and while Kate is far from a damsel-in-distress, she fills the Marian slot nicely, particularly in how she comes to enjoy working alongside Nick instead of chasing him, embracing the dance of the con rather than seeking to live within the rules she's always sought to uphold.The Heist is a fun, breezy read, great for a few hours of summer escapism. I adore heist stories, everything from White Collar to Ally Carter's Heist Society novels. Nick and Kate's relationship and playful banter are reminiscent of other unlikely partners in crime, from Nick and Nora Charles to The Scarecrow and Mrs. King. This is the type of globe-trotting adventure I can't help but devour, and while it can be a little cheesy and very silly, I'll definitely read the subsequent installments in this series. If they live up to the precedent set in this volume, Fox and O'Hare's future adventures promise to be the perfect recipe for a bit of welcome escapism.

I was really looking forward to reading this, as I love Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum books. I figured that anything of hers would be something I could get into and enjoyably pass the time. The first thing that stood out to me was the physical similarity between the main female character of this book (Kate) and Stephanie Plum. For me, that was off-putting. I guess I just expected something different - not Stephanie Plum in another profession and setting.Where the book lost me completely was the point where it's thrown out there that Kate, an FBI agent, used to be a Navy Seal (insert huge eye roll here). That did it. I'm sorry feminists, but women cannot be Navy Seals. As a woman, I have no problem admitting that women simply don't have the same physical capabilities as men. I don't get why that seems to be offensive to some people these days. It's just biological reality, and I'm okay with it. Had this been a science fiction or fantasy story, I might have been able to get past that, but in contemporary fiction? Nope. I stopped reading the book right there and don't plan to finish it, nor will I be continuing with the rest of the series. Totally disappointing.

In the past I read several of J. Evanovich books. They made me laugh and I enjoyed them. Then I got kind of over-saturated with them and stopped reading new ones. More recently I read and enjoyed some of L. Goldberg books that also made me laugh. So I was curious to see what these two talented authors created together. I was a little disappointed. I can not exactly put my finger on the reason why this book did not resonate with me. The plot is good, the action is fast, the characters are colorful, the book is well written and there is a good dose of humor in it. It should be a perfect escapist book for me. But somehow after reading first few chapters I had to force myself to finish it. At the same time I was thinking that I would really enjoy watching a movie with the same plot. With talented actors adding their spark, it would become a kind of cliché but still nice and entertaining to watch story. Instead, I felt like reading a very good script for a light and fun movie which, however, needed some fleshing up to become a good book. But, of course, other readers may feel differently. As for me, I am giving up on this series and will wait for new books from Mr. Goldberg.

so i'm watching this movie '1 night' and there's these scenes where it's a soft, quieter tone to them. if you've seen a romance film of any kind you know what those scene are like and i'm almost to the end of this book and my head gets this warm, fuzzy feeling - euphoria - and it's one of the best feelings in the world. cheyenne's writing from beginning to end does that for me. it's warm, it's magical, it's uplifting, it's heartbreaking. if you need a longer, but soft and warm, poetry book to read, i suggest this one. if you need a little short i suggest maroon daydreams but no matter what if you ever want that warm fuzzy feeling in the back of your mind, that euphoria, read cheyenne raine's work. she's going placing. oh and if you can focus on the book and a movie, i suggest watching 1 night with it, you'll understand why when you do.

I have both the ebook and the physical book and I recommend both. However (!!), if you have the chance to get the physical copy, do yourself a favor and buy it! Cheyenne was clever and left space to create and really make it your own. Do it! It gives you a chance to interact creatively with her words and stories and it’s so much fun!The poetry itself is beautiful, of course. The book is split into sections, which i really enjoy in a collection of poetry. That kind of organization takes the reader on a journey and the addition of stort stories at the end was surprising and enjoyable!Cheyenne is a wonderful writer and the poems and stories are full of magic and whimsy. There is a lightness and air about her writing that is almost childlike in its curiousity and exploration of the many worlds and vignettes she creates for us!

Just like maroon daydreams (which I also highly recommend), this book is filled with poetry crafted out of magic, warmth, and whimsy. I love Cheyenne's style and will now pick up anything she writes in the future.My favorites pieces in this collection were "queen in a throne of chaos", "queen of honey and salt", "tired highway", "horror films", "daily sounds", and "speechless things".

This collection was such a warming experience. My favourite poems and pieces where the ones that brought fantasy in... though that doesn't make me love the others any less. The imagery was great and so inspiring. I want to write books from these poems.Absolutely in love.

That's the best way I can describe this collection of Raine's poetry. So many of the poems have a feeling of child-like fantasy. At the same time, they also hint of perseverance, determination and maturity. Innocent but not naive. Powerful messages lay within many of these poems, and then others just paint picturesque scenes that you find yourself longing to be a part of. Whether you're looking for poems you can identify with or ones that capture simplicity and complexity simultaneously, this collection by Raine is one that won't disappoint.

A must read for youth hockey parents, coaches and players. Very interesting insight on the way the game is changing and the way to prepare for it. I love the way he describes planning for practices and then following the plan with high pressure, game simulated intensity. His cutting edge (pardon the pun) coaching style teaches the new style of the game. D men are no longer just D men, they are 4th and 5th forwards. Great stuff.
