Its funny what people complain about. Want to be rich? It's very easy: spend less than you earn and invest the difference. In time you will be rich --guaranteed. Simple formula right? Why are so few able to achieve it? Because it requires discipline and focus. This book is the same I guess. It is not complicated but most of us don't want to hear for the thousandth time that pasta, rice, bread, and potatoes are really bad for many of us. Tough luck, many of us are genetically inferior so STARCHY foods are not something we can process. I am one of you and so is the author.To all the complainers that it is information we already know, well guess what: A. IT WAS WRITTEN TEN YEARS AGO! and B. guess what...like applied mathematics there are no mysteries. It is simply factual information. Turns out STARCHY foods are evil for a huge population of people who are genetically predisposed. For everyone else --well lucky you. Eat all the potatoes, rice, bread, and pasta you want. For the 40% of the rest of us, well we will just have to eat more protein!! Do we have to completely abandon those tasty things? Well, no but severely restrict them --yes. I cut out the most evil of all --RICE altogether. limited whole wheat bread, potatoes and pasta intake. Easy to do and not that sacrificial really. I order a spaghetti meal and eat a quarter of it after a nice leafy green salad with oil and vinegar --hold the garlic bread (DAMN!). Save the rest for meals through the week with green vegetables to slow the sugar conversion process. Will this work for everyone --yes, if you stick with it. Like everything that is the challenge. Fall off the wagon --well get back up. Tenacity wins every time.Hey, we're all in the same boat gang. We lost the DNA raffle. Oh well. Get over it, stop complaining and making excuses and start taking control of your health. Drugs are only a short term crutch. The drug companies hate books like this because it creates less dependency. Small changes in diet and activity really make a huge difference but you have to commit to the process long term. Turn off the TV, get your brain engaged, and win the war.
I am a type 2 diabetic with blood sugar that had gone through the roof. I became frustrated with the way my blood sugar would continue to spike even with using a very expensive diabetic drug. In fact, I got so frustrated that I completely stopped taking the drugs and just ate what I wanted and did no exercise because what was the point when doing the right thing had no positive effect whatsoever? So for more than a year, I ate what I wanted without considering how it would affect my blood sugar. When I finally decided it was time to check things out, my blood sugar was indeed seriously uncontrolled. At the nagging of my loved ones, I made and appointment with my doctor, got on a cheaper diabetic drug since my coverage was seriously limited for the expensive one, and started watching what I ate as well as doing regular testing. Still, my blood sugar stayed high. Even with exercise.Before I became too frustrated again, I decided to see what new information might be out there. Many books claim that the information inside would help me to reverse my diabetes if I followed the program. Except that their 'solution' was for me to become vegan. Not gonna happen. I like my meat derived protein way too much. Then I found this book, read the reviews and decided to take a chance.Dr. Thompson's recommendation is very simple and I was surprised to find out the reason why my blood sugar spiked so badly had nothing to do with sugar intake. By eliminating two of the three recommendations, my sugar is now 100 points lower and going lower every day. In fact, yesterday it got below 200 for the first time in a long time. I have been testing myself on each of the three food items he recommends eliminating but have found that one of them is definitely not a problem for me. My sugar actually dropped after eating that particular item.If you are diabetic and looking for answers to why your blood sugar keeps spiking despite your every effort to keep it under control, I highly recommend buying this book and giving Dr. Thompson's recommendations a try for yourself. And no, we are not related as far as I know.My advice would be to test yourself on each of the three food items he recommends eliminating from your diet to see how they affect your personal blood sugar numbers. You might be surprised as I was.
This book is just too logical - in a good way. It's not restrictive in telling you what to eat; instead it breaks down the science behind your body and foods you eat. The chemistry explanations are very easy to understand. Glycemic "load" vs. "index" is invaluable information. This is a must read for anyone wanting to not only lose weight, but do good for your body.
This book is extremely valuable on how your body uses carbs, fat, and sugar. The whole idea of reducing calories really isn't going to make you lose weight after reading this. It simply comes down to eliminating all the processed foods, starches, and sugars, and eating whole foods. And, this book has some interesting information in it. Whole milk has a lower GL then 1%, which makes you wonder that your body needs fat to make you full and hold your hunger. Also, the guide to keep your GL below 500 in a given day is good advise. This means I don't have to sit and counts calories, or size portions. If you want a few servings of cheese go for it. I'm not diabetic, but I'd like to lose weight, and I'm convinced this man is right. Tomorrow I'm having eggs, & cheese omelette, and fresh chicken and beans for dinner. I like the simple natural and common sense of this book too. Who can live counting calories, portion sizes, and counting points. Simply eat all the fresh fruit and vegetables you want, and watch the amount of simple carbs you do eat. Appendix is helpful to refer to in case you forget.where the dangers are.
